The Secretary of Security, Alfonso Durazo, confirmed that the LeBarón family massacre left 9 people dead, including 6 children, plus 6 children injured.

He explained that the family made up of 3 women and 14 children moved from Bavispe, in Sonora, to the La Mora ranch, in the Mennonite municipality of Galeana, in Chihuahua, when the aggression was registered where they were ambushed by an armed group.
“The balance of the aggression is 9 deaths, 3 women and 6 minors; 6 children injured and one minor unharmed and one minor allegedly missing,” he said at a conference accompanied by the President.
Durazo said one of the injured children has a gunshot wound in the back, but is reported out of danger.

The Secretary of Security mentioned that the area of ​​the attack is in dispute between various criminal groups and there is an organized crime cell linked to the “Pacific cartel”, which intends to take control of territorial areas of Sonora.
He said that Julián LeBarón himself believes that the events are not related to his family and that his family’s convoy may have been confused with one of the criminal groups in the region. For his part, President López Obrador sent his condolences for what he described as an “unfortunate tragedy” and promised that justice will be done.
“I send my condolences, it is unfortunate because innocent children were killed. What is going to be done in these cases, collect all the information to see the causes and arrest the guilty, that there is justice,” he said.
“Above all, send a hug to the whole family, to all those affected, to the families of the victims and the commitment to do our part so that there is justice.”
