A Nevada student was sexually assaulted as she lay dying from two gunshot wounds to the back of her head, it has been claimed.
Paula Davis’ former boyfriend Giovanni Ruiz, 21, has been accused of her murder and expected to face additional charges, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
A medical examiner told a grand jury hearing that she found signs of sexual assault which backed up her finding that Davis was raped as she was dying, according to court transcripts obtained by the outlet.
Ruiz is now expected to face additional charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery, the Las Vegas Review-Journal claimed.
Davis, 19, was found by her dad in the back seat of her family’s van, which was located in Desert Horizons Park on September 6.
Sean Davis said he located the van and his daughter’s body using an app for finding a lost iPhone.
An arrest report stated that a .380-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun, with two rounds gone, were found in a suitcase in Ruiz’s home in addition to a receipt for the gun.

Davis had tried to break up with Ruiz in the days before she was found dead on September 6 and had described him as possessive and jealous, according to police.
The arrest report stated that Ruiz tried to prevent Davis contacting male friends and told her how often she could see them.
Davis broke up with Ruiz through a text message, which he had received sometime before 11 am on the day she had died.
It apparently read: ‘It’s time for both of us to move on completely from what we had.
‘This was a sad realization for me and I know it will be for you as well. I wish I could support you through this as a friend but I’m sure you can recognize that a clean break will heal faster. So until all of this is past some distance would be best.’
Home video surveillance from Davis’ area later appears to show Ruiz’s truck and her family’s van parked alongside one another before the van can be seen being driven away.
Court transcripts state that at around 1.30 pm Ruiz was at a Walmart store in Las Vegas, where the van was found. According to the outlet, the documents state he purchased bleach, water, paper towels and trash bags.

Ruiz was a graduate accounting student at University of Northern Nevada.
Her family members were present for brief hearing for Ruiz on Thursday and her father Sean was reported as saying: ‘It’s a nightmare. But we’re taking it one day at a time.’
North Las Vegas police Detective Andrew Santos had testified that no blood was found in the van where Davis was discovered and that they could only locate her shoes.
‘I believe she was dumped in her vehicle after she was killed,’ Santos told grand jurors.
