A nationwide Telstra outage has affected numerous EFTPOS machines and ATMs, prompting the telco to advise people to carry cash instead of relying on ‘tap-and-go’.
The outage, which began on Friday, continues to affect businesses in numerous states on Saturday morning, a Telstra spokesman told SBS News.
“We continue to make progress on restoring the intermittent authentication issue impacting machine to machine data services and are seeing progressive restoration of device connections,” he said.
Telstra has responded to angry customers on Twitter, telling them “we are still working on full restoration”.
ANZ has also been forced to apologise to annoyed clients on social media, tweeting that “we do not have an ETA on when it will be rectified”.
Several customers vented their frustration on social media.
The outage comes days after an issue affected access to some Telstra apps and the company’s website, including cloud services.
