Australian Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo will join McLaren after the 2020 season.
After two years at Renault, Ricciardo will join Lando Norris at McLaren on a “multi-year arrangement”.
“Signing Daniel is another step forward in our long-term plan and will bring an exciting new dimension to the team, alongside Lando,” McLaren chief executive Zak Brown said in a statement.
This is good news for our team, partners and of course our fans.”
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl said Ricciardo is a “proven-race winner” and would add a new dimension to the team.
“His experience, commitment and energy will be a valuable addition to McLaren and our mission to return to the front of the field,” Seidl said.
“With Daniel and Lando as teammates, I believe we have two racers who will continue to excite our fans and help the team grow.”
After four-time champion Sebastian Vettel announced he would be leaving Ferrari, there was speculation Ricciardo could be his replacement, but that vacancy has instead been filled by Spaniard Carlos Sainz.
Sainz’s move to Ferrari opened a spot at McLaren, which has now become Ricciardo’s.
