Maradona raised eyebrows in 1984 when he went to Italy to sign not for Juventus or AC Milan or Roma, but for the unfashionable Napoli.

In a stint of several years with the southern Italian club, he brought them its first two Serie A titles and a UEFA Cup win. The street footballer from Buenos Aires became a hero for fans from one of Italy’s poorest cities.

Today, the fans are gathering to say goodbye.
