Preston North End 0-0 Queens Park Rangers: Hoops’ winning run ended in Deepdale stalemate

Preston have picked up just 15 points from 16 matches at Deepdale this season

Queens Park Rangers’ four-match winning run came to an end as they were held to a goalless draw at Preston.

Lyndon Dykes saw a low drive kept out by the legs of home keeper Daniel Iversen, and then lobbed a second chance wide after being played in by Geoff Cameron.

The Lilywhites had their share of chances in an entertaining first half, as Brad Potts fired a first-time effort just wide, while Anthony Gordon headed agonisingly wide.

Charlie Austin flashed a shot wide and then stung the palms of Iversen with a low drive as Rangers extended their unbeaten away run to seven matches.

After back-to-back defeats, Alex Neil’s side produced plenty of encouraging signs by picking up a point against in-form QPR, with the impressive Everton loanee Gordon at the heart of their better moments.

Rangers came into the game buoyed by beating promotion-chasing Watford, Brentford and Bournemouth in a run of six wins in seven matches, but leading scorer Ilias Chair was well shackled by the home defence.

And it was the hosts who carved out the better chances, with Seny Dieng getting down well to save Gordon’s powerful low drive before tipping over a header from the unmarked Sepp van den Berg.

But once again Preston lacked a killer instinct in front of goal as they failed to score for the third-straight game and a seventh time in 10 league matches.

Preston have won just one of their past seven Championship outings and sit 14th, while QPR, who have lost just once in nine matches, are one place above them on goal difference.

Preston manager Alex Neil:

“I thought we definitely lifted the level of performance, so I’m pleased with that.

“We should have landed the first blow, but we didn’t. We got into some great areas, and we looked a real threat at times.

“Over the piece, I think if any team had deserved to go on and win the game, it was us.”

QPR boss Mark Warburton:

“The second-half performance was much better than the first, and I was delighted with the way our wing-backs got forward.

“I think it says a lot that the lads are really disappointed back there at only coming out of this game with a point.

“It’s another clean sheet for us, and that belief is still growing in the camp.”
