Saskatoon police guns and gangs unit lays gun, drug charges

The Saskatoon police’s guns and gangs unit arrested several people this past weekend.

At roughly 6:15 p.m. on May 8, officer said they saw a Dodge Durango leave a home in the 700 block of 5th Avenue North and a traffic stop was later done, according to a press release.

Police said the driver refused to exit the SUV and began rummaging through her purse. She was removed and officers arrested her.

Inside her purse, police said they found prepackaged methamphetamine, cannabis as well as a can of bear spray. Ammunition and more meth were located inside the vehicle with two other occupants, according to officers.

The three women, aged 21, 30 and 28, are charged with drug trafficking offences.

At 1 a.m. on May 10, officers, with assistance from the tactical team, carried out a search warrant for a residence in the 700 block of 5th Avenue North in the City Park neighbourhood, according to a statement. Three other women were found in a detached garage and taken into custody.

Meth, a shotgun and ammunition were seized on the property, officers said.

Two women, aged 31 and 27, are facing numerous firearm-related offences. Police said the third woman was released without charges.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
